As Cabinet has endorsed the planned rollout of 5G mobile broadband services in Fiji — including spectrum assignment, pricing framework, and an operator incentive model — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communications Manoa Kamikamica says providers still need to sign their licences, which come with a cost that has largely been agreed upon.
While responding to questions from fijivillage News, Kamikamica says once the payments are made, they can expect the 5G rollout to begin.
He says in terms of economic opportunity, this will unlock significant potential.

Kamikamica adds that one of the key aspects is that the telecommunications industry will need to invest around $270 million over the next five years to support the transition.
He says this is an exciting level of investment in the country’s infrastructure, as it means more opportunities and continued economic growth.
He hopes an official announcement on the rollout timeline will be made soon by the Prime Minister.
Cabinet has also approved a 5G Network Security Policy that will guide operators and stakeholders on secure deployment practices.
