The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s side defeated Great Britain 21-17 in the HSBC SVNS Dubai 7s to keep their cup contention alive.

The match was intense as both teams hunted for a win after losing their opening matches.

Great Britain drew first blood with an unconverted try to Matt Davidson, but Fiji responded a few minutes later through Vuiviwa Naduvalo, with Terio Tamani converting.

Fiji led Great Britain 7-5 at halftime.

Great Britain regained composure in the second half and managed to score another try through Damien Hoyland to put them in a 12-7 lead.

Fiji banded together and put pressure on Great Britain, who committed a number of mistakes.

Alusio Vakadranu was in impressive form, scoring back-to-back tries to give Fiji the win.

Meanwhile, Fiji lost to South Africa 24-21 in their first match, and they will now turn their focus to New Zealand, who they will play at 5.19am today.

The men’s cup semi-finals will start at 10.22 tonight, and the final will begin at 2.43am tomorrow.
