Bus fares have been reduced by 10 percent across the board and this will be for the next 6 months.

Stage one fare for adults in Viti Levu and Vanua Levu will be 92 cents while school bus fare will be 46 cents. Stage 2 fare for adults will be $1.45 while for school buses it will be 72 cents and stage 3 fare for adults will be $1.99 and the school bus fare will be 99 cents.

Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum had announced in the 2022/2023 National Budget that bus users will pay discounted fares, while government will pay the difference directly to the bus companies through a $6 million allocation in the budget.

The government will make an advance payment to all bus companies for the month of August based on previous records and reconcile this with acquittals and e-ticketing data every month.

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission says to pass on the benefit to the consumers, they have re-adjusted the fares to reflect the 10 percent reduction.

They say they will be monitoring the bus companies to ensure that the reduced fares are passed to the consumers.
