British Army officer Manuqalo Komaitai, currently serving with the First Battalion Irish Guards at Buckingham Palace, says it is a dream come true to be selected for the Vodafone Fijiana squad ahead of the upcoming Women’s Rugby World Cup.
Originally from Bau, Yanuyanu, with maternal links to Serua Island, the powerful flanker has spent the last six years serving under His Majesty King Charles.
Komaitai says returning home to wear the national jersey is both an honour and a privilege.
Irish Guard says her friends have been encouraging her for years to move over to Fiji and attend a trial for the team, and she is glad she finally did.
A former player for the London Irish Women’s team, Komaitai adds that being named in the national squad and earning a place in a Rugby World Cup lineup is the fulfilment of a lifelong dream.
The Women’s Rugby World Cup is set to kick off this Saturday.
