Nathan Cleary believes his elevation to the NSW vice-captaincy will spur him on to find a louder voice within the team and claimed he had no idea about Blues Legend Andrew Johns' call for him to be dumped for game two.

The 22-year-old admitted the Origin spotlight had made him more withdrawn than usual in game one last week, a trait he pledged to fix before tomorrow's do-or-die clash.

Cleary said he was "a little bit" surprised when he was named vice captain, but stressed it would motivate him to be the on-field general the Blues need.

NSW faces Queensland at 9.10pm tomorrow.
