Labasa Town Council Special Administrator Paul Jaduram

Flooding in Labasa Town in the last two days were caused by blocked pipes and issues surrounding Nasekula Creek close to the town.

This has been confirmed by Labasa Town Council Special Administrator Paul Jaduram, who says following heavy rain due to Tropical Cyclone Rae, flood waters had entered some shops and came up to the doorstep of others.

Jaduram says they managed to clear debris from the grating over the drains to allow the water to drain away.

He says although Labasa River did not burst its banks, following heavy rain, the Nasekula Creek got flooded and resulted in flood waters entering the town.

The Special Administrator says the creek must be dredged and there is also a lot of debris in it.

He also says that the floodgate in the Nasekula Village area is also not working.

Questions have been sent to the Fiji Roads Authority. They are yet to respond.
