2016 Olympic 7s Gold medal winning captain, Osea Kolinisau is the new Fiji Airways National Men’s 7s coach after the Fiji Rugby Union’s decision to sack coach, Ben Gollings after 19 tournament losses.

Interim Chair, Peter Mazey says Gollings got his first verbal warning in November, his second after the South Africa 7s tournament, and his third verbal warning was given after the Perth 7s in Australia.

He says a warning letter was given to Gollings after the Vancouver 7s.

While speaking to the media, Mazey says the decision to remove Gollings was not easy and was in no way made under pressure from external elements outside rugby house as processes had to be followed as guided by the contract laws of Fiji.

He says after careful consideration and a unanimous agreement by all the trustees, they had decided to part ways with Gollings due to his inability to meet the desired standards and expectations set forth by the organisation.

He says while Gollings’ contributions are appreciated, Fiji Rugby believes that fresh perspectives and expertise are required to achieve optimal performance on the international stage.

The FRU Interim Chair would like to make it clear that the decision to remove Gollings was not made under duress but through due process and consultations with experts within the rugby fraternity.

Mazey says in moving forward, the FRU Board of Trustees and Management met with the players and technical staff of the national 7s side this morning to reaffirm their full support going into the last leg of the 7s series and the Olympic Games.
