Prime Minister and Incoming President of COP23 Voreqe Bainimarama has told delegates attending the Pre COP23 meeting in Denarau that there is not only hope that they can find and implement solutions to climate change but there is opportunity to create better lives for every citizen once the hard decision that needs to be made is made.

Bainimarama says that climate change crisis can no longer be ignored as it is hard to find any part of the world that is unaffected by this event.

He adds that leaders can bring clean power to people who need it, introduce better and more affordable energy systems and feed people with better stewardship of the land, water and forests through a combination of political will, ingenuity and finance or investment that is well spent for a better future.

Bainimarama says that Fiji is embarking on a series of projects that will improve everyday lives and help people to adapt to the effects of climate change.

He says the communities will now have clean power where they previously had diesel generated power or no power, the capital city Suva will also have more resilient water and waste management system and creating our own Green Bond will provide better access to climate adaptation finance in Fiji.

Meanwhile Bainimarama congratulated the COP22 President Mezouar, for the support he has given him and the country from the very moment Fiji took on the responsibility for COP23 Presidency.

The Pre COP23 is currently held in Denarau and will be concluded later tomorrow.
