Fiji Airways Men's National 7s coach Gareth Baber wants to see competitive rugby from national 7s players in the 44th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s.

Baber says taking part in the tournament will be a bit strange for them as this is their first tournament after 7s rugby was called off in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He says new players have been part of their training squad and he would like to see them convert their training into what is expected on the field.

He further says with players such as Jerry Tuwai, Pio Tuwai, Livai Ikanikoda, Alasio Naduva, Keponi Paul, Jiuta Lutumailagi and many others participating in this tournament, it will be a thriller to see them go up against each other.

He adds this tournament will also be an added boost for them going into an Olympic year.

Looking at the results from the Under 21 quarter-final, Tuva thumped Radisson Naduruniu 19-0, Dominion Brothers defeated Sacred Heart 22-5, Ratu Filise beat Pacific Warrior Youth Nairai 15-0 and Marist defeated Fire 12-5.

The semi-final for the Under 21 competition will be held at 3.32 pm today.

The prize-money in the Under 21 competition is $3,000 and the runner up gets $1,000.

The men's pool games begin at 8 am today with Police White taking on Tuvakarau Rugby at the ANZ Stadium.

The main cup elimination and finals will be held tomorrow.

The winner in the men's competition will get $15,000 while the runner up gets $5,000.

You can catch the live commentaries of the men’s quarter-finals from 1.25 pm, semi-finals from 4 pm and the final at 6.45 pm on our sister station, Viti FM tomorrow.
