Fiji 7s coach Gareth Baber is hopeful that there will be some regional 7s tournament in February and March next year before they return to the HSBC 7s Series.
Baber made these comments after World Rugby announced that the Hamilton and Sydney 7s for next year were cancelled while the Cape Town and Dubai 7s were earlier scrapped.
Baber says in Fiji, they are blessed to have quality opposition to play against and talent to choose from.
World Rugby has confirmed that they are working with host unions, participating teams and international rugby players to continue to evaluate and develop supplementary competition opportunities at regional level in addition to HSBC 7s series.
They say this is to ensure that teams which have qualified for the Olympics continue to have an appropriate amount of high-level competition opportunities.
