Ayodhya, the sacred birthplace of Lord Ram has once again etched its name in history as it illuminated the banks of the Saryu River with a record-breaking 2.617 million diyas on Chhoti Diwali.

According to officials, around 35,000 volunteers, mostly students, helped light the earthen lamps at Ram Ki Paidi.

The spectacular sight turned the holy city into a sea of light, symbolising the homecoming of Lord Ram to Ayodhya.

Another record was set with more than 2,100 participants performing the grand ritual together.

The celebrations also included a stunning laser show, fireworks display and Ramleela performances depicting key episodes from the Ramayana, adding cultural grandeur to the spiritual festivity.

The previous record was set last year, when 2.42 million diyas were lit at the same venue.

Diwali marks the victory of light over darkness and good over evil, drawing devotees and tourists from around the world every year.

During Diwali, people light thousands of diyas to celebrate the return of Lord Ram after his victory over the demon king Ravan and 14 years of exile in the forest.

Diwali will be celebrated tomorrow.
