Australia has vowed to continue to invest in locally led solutions in Fiji to security challenges such as health and community safety, cybercrime, corruption, and maritime security.

This was shared by Australia Foreign Minister Penny Wong today as she met Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and other representatives of the Pacific Islands Forum.

Wong says the Blue Pacific Ocean remains peaceful, prosperous, and equipped to respond to the challenges of time, to help the Pacific family stay united and continue to elevate Pacific voices on the issues that matter most to the region.

She says they will continue to pursue greater integration of both economies, with more opportunities for Pacific islanders and Fijians looking for jobs and economic options.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says the meeting reaffirmed the enduring strength of the renewed and elevated Vuvale Partnership.

Wong says Australia listens and responds to Fiji’s needs and values the leadership role that it plays to ensure peace and unity within the region.

Rabuka and Wong also discussed her visit to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital. Rabuka highlighted that the enhancement of the CWM Hospital is a key priority under the Australia-Fiji Development Partnership Plan, aimed at enhancing healthcare services for the people of Fiji.
