Australia donates electrical network materials to EFL

Australia has today handed over electrical network materials to Energy Fiji Limited to support their Tropical Yasa recovery efforts in the Northern Division.

Australia’s Counsellor for Development Cooperation, Joanna Houghton says following the cyclone, they coordinated with the Fijian Government on the provision of essential material and equipment to allow rehabilitation of the damaged infrastructure and a key priority was the electricity network.

She says they were able to rapidly procure the requested materials and had it transported on board HMAS Adelaide and on Australian Defence Force humanitarian relief flights to Fiji.

She says the equipment forms part of Australia’s broader response to assist Fiji with its recovery efforts – a commitment of $7.1 million in humanitarian relief, complementing the deployment of the HMAS Adelaide.

She says they are now closely working with the Fijian government on education as their first priority is to get children back to school by the 19th of this month.
