Atletico Madrid has moved level on points with Spanish La Liga leaders, Real Sociedad after they beat Barcelona 1-0.

Barcelona is nine points behind the top two teams.

Yannick Carrasco scored the only goal just before half-time.

The result leaves Barcelona 10th.

They have 11 points from eight games.

Real Sociedad are only ahead of Atletico on goals scored as both have the same goal difference.

This win has continued Atletico's unbeaten start to the season and stretched their unbeaten run to 24 games in all competitions, while it was Barca's third defeat in eight La Liga games.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid has missed the chance to move within a point of Real Sociedad as they were held 1 all by Villarreal this morning.

Real Madrid’s Mariano scored a goal within just two minutes of the game.

Villarreal were awarded a penalty later on when Samuel Chukwueze was brought down and Gerard Moreno scored.

Real Madrid, who are missing a number of first-team players through injury, stay fourth in the table behind Villarreal in second.

In other matches this morning, Levante and Elche drew 1-1 while Sevilla beat Celta Vigo 4 – 0.
