Ashneel Sudhakar has resigned as a Member of Parliament

FijiFirst parliamentarian Ashneel Sudhakar has resigned as a Member of Parliament, and the Electoral Commission will now decide on his replacement.

Sudhakar handed in his resignation letter to Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

Faiyaz Koya is the next person in the candidates' list for FijiFirst.

He got 547 votes.

When we asked him if he will take up the parliamentary seat if offered, Koya referred all comments to the FijiFirst General Secretary.

When asked by Fijivillage on whether Koya will take up the parliamentary seat, Bainimarama referred all queries to the Electoral Commission.

The Secretary to the Commission confirms that the Speaker of Parliament has informed the commission of a vacancy in parliament via a letter this morning.

The letter will be tabled in the next meeting of the Electoral Commission following their appointment.

Ashneel Sudhakar was terminated from his position as the Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources on Friday afternoon following the allegations of sexual harassment and his refusal to resign as a Member of Parliament.

FijiFirst General Secretary Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says they had earlier showed Sudhakar the statutory declaration by the woman who has made the allegations, other documents and the woman had also come in for the meeting.

However, Sudhakar denied the allegations.
