Architects have been reminded to innovate responsibly, pilot eco-friendly materials, test resilient systems, share results and build local expertise.
While opening the 2025 Fiji Architecture Conference and Trade Exhibition at Sheraton Fiji Resort in Denarau, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka says young professionals and students must make sustainability, resilience and inclusivity their guiding principles.
Gavoka is urging architects to identify projects that reflect eco-design and resilience and collaborate across disciplines.
He says they must agree on timelines, deliver measurable outcomes aligned to the National Sustainable Tourism Framework and national development goals.
He further says visitor arrivals depend on seamless access and quality infrastructure and resorts, airports, conference venues, and public spaces shape the visitor experience and Fiji’s global reputation.
Gavoka says well-designed buildings support tourism dispersal beyond main hubs, creating inclusive growth for communities.
The Deputy Prime Minister says aviation infrastructure must meet the highest standards of safety, design, and environmental performance.
He says together, tourism, aviation, and construction form an ecosystem that drives jobs, entrepreneurship, and prosperity.
Gavoka says the government is committing to listen to industry voices.
He adds they commit to support through policy, regulation, and investment and to partner with their expertise to deliver infrastructure that is safe, efficient, and sustainable.
