1st Prize Winner, Anjalin Sharma

Anjalin Sharma won the Navtarang and Radio Sargam Sabse Badi Mithai Competition which was held at the Communications Fiji Limited Boardroom with a cash prize of $500 after she prepared the biggest coconut barfi, an Indian sweet, using 100 scraped coconuts.

In an interview with fijivillage News, Sharma says that the help of her parents made everything easier for her.

She says her mother had given her the idea while her father from Labasa had scraped the coconuts and using her sweets-making skills she was able to pull it off.

Sharma says it took her one day to make the barfi. She adds that the prize money is for her dad to appreciate his hard work while she is now focusing on tomorrow’s Sweet and Savory Thali Competition.

Ashneeta Devi of Makoi won the second prize of $300 after she made Modak. Devi says it took her three hours to make the sweet with the help of her family members and says she will utilise her prize money for her son’s education.

Devi is also calling on everyone to be considerate of the environment while celebrating Diwali this year.

Shakantula Chand from Valelevu won the third prize award of $200 with her Carrot Halwa which she made using 60kg of carrots to make the sweets.

The Sweet and Savory Thali competition will be held tomorrow at the Communications Fiji Limited Boardroom.
