Aman Ravindra Singh to pay Bainimarama and Sayed-Khaiyum $60,000 each as damages plus 6% interest on the sum from March 2018 and court costs in defamation case

High Court Judge, Justice Lyone Seneviratne has ordered Aman Ravindra-Singh to pay Voreqe Bainimarama and Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum $120,000 as damages within 30 days.

This is in relation to a defamation case that Bainimarama and Sayed-Khaiyum had filed against Ravindra-Singh.

Bainimarama and Sayed-Khaiyum had taken Singh to court for a social media post in 2018 and they said that the social media post defamed both of them.

The court has also ordered that Ravindra-Singh is to render in writing a public retraction and apology to Bainimarama and Sayed-Khaiyum in prominent print which is to be published on his Facebook page and in all local daily newspapers.

The judge has further ordered Ravindra-Singh to remove the subject article from his Facebook page immediately.

Ravindra-Singh has also been ordered to pay Bainimarama and Sayed-Khaiyum $8000 as costs of this action within 30 days from today.

Bainimarama and Sayed-Khaiyum are entitled to 6 percent interest on the sum awarded from 7th March 2018 till today.

Ravindra-Singh has said that he will study the ruling and then decide on the next step.
