Alleged sextortion duo out on bail

29-year-old Pranesh Sharma and 31-year-old Ria Ramira Chandra who are charged in relation to a case of alleged sextortion have been granted bail.

The couple appeared before Magistrate Sufia Hamza this morning.

They have been released on $500 cash bail each with two sureties.

The two have been ordered to surrender their passports to the court and a Stop Departure Order has also been issued for them.

Pranesh Sharma has been ordered to appear at the Nasinu Police Station on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 8am and 5pm while Ria Kumar is to appear between 8am and 5pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

They have also been issued a curfew from 6pm until 6am daily.

Sharma and Kumar will take their plea on 22nd August.

They have been charged with one count each of Traffic Obscene Publication; for recording an explicit video and was in possession of it, a second count of Posting an Intimate Visual Recording; for recording the explicit video without the victim's consent, and a third count of Computer related extortion and Fraud; in which the couple obtained $1,841 through mobile money transaction and cash delivered personally.
