Alleged murderer remanded while case transferred to High Court

Koroi Seru, who allegedly beat Javed Ali to death on New Year’s Day has been remanded in custody by Suva Magistrate Yogesh Prasad.

The case has been transferred to the High Court and will be called on January 22nd.

The 38-year-old unemployed man of Vidogo Settlement in Vatuwaqa is charged with a count of murder.

It is alleged that on New Year’s Eve, Ali, a manager at a call centre, joined Seru and six others in a drinking party.

Police say at around 10am on New Year’s Day, a fight started where Seru allegedly assaulted Ali until he laid motionless on the floor.

They say Seru conveyed Ali to the CWM Hospital, where he later passed away.

Police say investigation had established what had transpired from the statements of the six eye witnesses who were part of the drinking party.
