All schools throughout Fiji will remain closed today according to the Ministry of Education.

This decision has been made in consultation with NDMO and Fiji Meteorological Services.

Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro advises that all schools remain closed until further notice for the safety of the children and teachers.

The Ministry of Education will continue to liaise with NDMO to make any further decisions in regards to the opening of schools and keep all students, teachers, parents and guardians updated through press releases.

All parents and guardians are urged to continue to monitor their children’s whereabouts while they are at home.

When asked by fijivillage News on some parents raising the question on why schools are closed in non flood affected areas, Radrodro stresses that the closure of schools again today is done in consultation with NDMO, and it's done in the best interest of the students' safety.

A flash flood alert remains in force for flood prone areas, small streams and low lying areas for the Western Division, Bua to Macuata, Serua and Namosi.

An active trough of low pressure remains slow moving over Fiji.

Associated cloud and rain continues to affect the group.

A heavy rain warning remains in force for the whole Fiji group.

Heavy rain is expected to ease from later today.
