All schools across Fiji, except for the Lau group will resume classes today, however, parents should use their discretion when deciding whether to send their children to school.

Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro says they decided this after consulting with the National Disaster Risk Management Office.

Radrodro says Category 2 Tropical Cyclone Rae has caused significant damage to the infrastructure in the Lau Group, including roads, bridges and crossings, impacting the ability of students and teachers to access schools.

He says several schools are also being used as evacuation centers, preventing them from operating as usual.

The Minister says as a result, schools in the Lau group will remain closed until further notice.

He further says school heads have also been urged to stay in close contact with their respective Management Committees, as well as District and Divisional Officers, for further updates.

Radrodro adds that the Ministry of Education is monitoring the situation closely and will provide additional information as needed.
