Permanent Secretary for Health Doctor James Fong.

Permanent Secretary for Health, Doctor James Fong says all checks will be conducted for international visitors before they arrive in the country, and it will not be an issue for people to get vaccinated for COVID-19 here if they arrive here unvaccinated.

Doctor Fong says an unvaccinated foreign national managed to come in earlier before the new requirements were uploaded.

He says this should not occur again.

Doctor Fong says they now have a very efficient system and the screening will be done before people board the flight to come to Fiji.

He says the Immigration Department is also using a digital system, and it will ensure all the checking is done prior to a person’s arrival into Fiji.

Doctor Fong says they will ensure only fully vaccinated people and those with negative tests are allowed in to reduce the chance of any variants coming in.

Fiji’s borders open for international visitors from next Wednesday.

It has been revealed that around 30,000 passengers are inbound for Fiji for December through various airline companies while 40,000 inbound passengers are confirmed for January at this stage.
