Through her work to eliminate violence against women and children in Vanuatu, Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre Coordinator Shamima Ali has received Vanuatu's 40th Anniversary Medal from President, Nikenike Vurobaravu.

Ali was in Vanuatu to launch the Vanuatu Women’s Centre Herstory book at the organisation’s 30th anniversary celebration.

Through the Pacific Women’s Network against Violence against Women, Ali has been a great mentor to the Vanuatu Women's Centre over the last 30 years.

She says this is a great milestone, not only for the Vanuatu Women's Centre but all the members of the Pacific Women's Network against Violence against Women, which has existed since 1992.

Ali says while they celebrate the Vanuatu Women's Centre's existence, they also lament the fact that despite their aim to work themselves out of business one day, the Vanuatu Women's Centre is still here 30 years later.

She says the Fiji Women's Crisis Centre is still here 38 years later, and the Family Support Centre in the Solomon Islands is still there.
