Minister for Education Rosy Akbar has called on parents to be aware of what their children see on the internet.

Akbar highlighted this while speaking at the graduation ceremony for the Conservatorium of Dance in Nadi.

She says the changing times and social media has become a huge influence in everyone’s lives, especially for children.

Akbar says students spend most of their time in school however parents need to ensure that their children are safe out of school.

She says there are a lot of things that happen that affect children and they need to better monitor children when giving them access to the internet.

Akbar adds parents must be very vigilant and mindful of how they use their mobile phones.

The Minister also questioned parents if they ever bother to find out what sites their children surf on the web.

Akbar also called on the graduates to inspire other young Fijians and to become job creators.
