Two families who lost their home in a fire in Jittu Estate yesterday have been assured of assistance by the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar.

Akbar met with Peni Bari and Viniana Adinaulu today.

Akbar says their aim is to provide immediate relief and by providing Government assistance in such cases, they are doing their best to ease the families burden.

Akbar says they will look at all aspects and assist the families accordingly.

She says Bari will be assisted with the Government-funded Fire Insurance claim as he is a beneficiary of the Social Pension Scheme.

Akbar adds the other family is not on any of the welfare schemes, however, they qualify to be helped with the Fire Relief Assistance.

76 year old Bari says Akbar’s visit brings relief to their family and they had requested if she could provide food and other immediate basic needs.

Akbar has also provided immediate food supplies to Bari.
