The Ministry of Agriculture is aiming to increase the value of exports to $100 million in the next two years from the current value of $50 million per annum.

Minister of Agriculture, Doctor Mahendra Reddy says there are a number of programs in place to support the overall program of fast-tracking agricultural growth and development so that this strategic objective is achieved.

Reddy says they expect to have exports worth $60 million this year.

He adds they have done extremely well compared to last year where there has been a 15% increase in volume in the first 6 months of this year compared to the same period last year.

The Ministry has provided seed material to over 33,000 families where each package contains a number of dry seeds.

Reddy has also highlighted that they have started the second round of seedlings, suckers and planting material distribution to farmers so that they can expand agriculture production.

They have also started the second round of distribution to families for backyard gardening to serve the best strategic objective for food and nutrition security.
