Accessing climate finance has remained one of the key agenda items for this year's COP - AG

Attorney-General and Minister responsible for Climate Change, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says accessing climate finance has remained one of the key agenda items for this year's Conference of the Parties.

He highlighted this while participating in a panel discussion which focused on addressing the ocean in supporting climate justice in Small Islands Developing States.

Sayed-Khaiyum says we need to curb the emissions behind climate change while also moving our oceans towards regimes of sustainable management.

He says rather than relegate our ocean as a climate victim, we can pursue opportunities that help make the ocean a climate solution through ocean-based forms of renewable energy.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the climate crisis is an oceans crisis and it is critical that we tackle both of these challenges simultaneously.

He adds for Small Islands Developing States, access to affordable finance is critical to adapt our communities and infrastructure, shift towards clean energy, and help build sustainable blue economies.
