Abdul Shafil has been sentenced to 8 months imprisonment for stealing butter from a supermarket in Tamavua on the 7th of August this year.
Magistrate Yogesh Prasad says he had taken into account that Shafil was remorseful and had entered an early guilty plea.
Magistrate Prasad adds that he declined to impose a suspended sentence because first offenders need to understand the consequences of their actions.
Shafil stole eight 500-gram Rewa Butter packs worth $124.64.
He earlier told the court that he stole the packets of butter to purchase baby essentials for his child.
