Education Minister Premila Kumar.

Education Minister Premila Kumar says the new school year which starts today will see a number of changes such as the removal of exams for Years 1 to 3 with only mid-year and annual exams for other classes.

She says additionally that there will be no external exams for Years 6 and 10.

Kumar adds other changes are curriculum oriented where Years 1 to 4 in 90 selected schools from around the country will be trialling the revised Literacy and Numeracy Curriculum and Years 1 to 3 will be trialling the new Moral and Civic Education curriculum.

She says the Ministry is also rolling out its new Year 11 Life Math curriculum this year after last year’s successful trial.

Kumar further adds as students return to school, the Ministry commends parents and guardians for the support that they have been providing to their children over the years, especially during the difficult months in 2021 and urges them to continue to do so.
