A move to control the amount of plastic and plastic products that end up in our oceans is currently being mapped out by the Department of Environment and Waste Recyclers Fiji Limited.

The discussions were held around the effective partnerships and to map out the path forward for Fiji's Container Deposit System.

Director Environment Sandeep Singh says 80% of whatever is disposed off on the land ends up in the ocean.

Sandeep says the Department is also grateful to the Waste Recyclers Fiji Limited for all the environmentally friendly and recycling initiatives that they have been able to administer and achieve during the past 26 years of its existence.

Waste Recyclers Fiji Limited Director and CEO Amitesh Deo says they are supportive of the Department’s consultation process to guide the Container Deposit System as they believe that for the implementation to be successful, stakeholder views are critical.
