$92,310 which was raised last year has been presented during the Bushells Fiji’s Biggest Morning Tea to help transform lives and strengthen cancer care across Fiji.

According to the Fiji Cancer Support and Medical Assistance, 500 patients have been assisted with critical medical supplies, transportation and palliative care.

They say $80,000 has been invested in land, air and sea transport, ensuring patients get treatment on time and $27,000 was used on essential medicines, including unavailable chemotherapy drugs.

According to statistics from the Fiji Cancer Society, 93 new cancer cases have been registered, with eight diagnostic tests conducted.

Australian Deputy High Commissioner to Fiji Clair McNamara says the work that people do in the cancer society is priceless.

McNamara says under the Vuvale Partnership, the Australian and Fiji Governments are to help health services in Fiji.

She says they fund a range of areas, from the cancer sector to action programmes, in trying to motivate people to take ownership of their own health.

McNamara says immunization vaccines are constantly supplied by the Australian government to help ordinary Fiji citizens combat various lifestyle diseases.

She adds they will always stand ready to help in patient support and awareness prevention when the need arises.
