Two women have tragically lost their lives following a serious road crash in Naboutini on 14 November 2025
83 road fatalities were recorded by the Land Transport Authority in 2025, which is a 25 percent increase compared to 2024.

LTA Chief Executive Officer Irimaia Rokosawa says there were 66 road fatalities in 2024, and speeding remains the main cause of road deaths.

He says they are heavily investing in portable cameras because drivers tend to comply with speed limits as they approach static cameras.

Rokosawa also acknowledges the Government for supporting them through the increase in speeding fines.

He says that in October last year, Cabinet approved an increase in speeding fines for offenders exceeding the speed limit by less than 15 kilometres per hour.

He adds that the proposed increase, which has been endorsed by Cabinet, has raised the fine from $25 to $50.

Rokosawa also highlighted that they will review these fines if there is a need to increase them further, in the interest of road safety.
