Assistance from the Australian Federal Police and New Zealand Police has been requested as Fijian authorities investigate allegations that 7 police officers colluded with an individual believed to be connected to a drug trade.

Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu confirms the person who initiated the conversations via Viber is allegedly based overseas, and both AFP and NZP moved quickly to support the investigation once the information surfaced.

Tudravu says analysis conducted by the Criminal Investigations Department on the social media posts has allegedly implicated seven officers, whose mobile phones have now been seized for digital forensic examination.

He also revealed that police have established communication with the individual who posted the screenshots online, with the next step being to formally obtain her statement.

Tudravu stresses that the allegations are extremely serious, and all avenues will be pursued to verify the claims and determine the extent of any wrongdoing.

The Commissioner adds that investigators have been instructed to expedite the case, and regular updates will be provided to keep the public informed.
