76 people arrested this week for drug related offences ranging in ages from 19-64

76 people around the country arrested this week for drug related offenses with a 64-year-old man as the oldest after being found with seven sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana , while a 19-year-old farmer is the youngest who was found with five plastic bags containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu says a 63-year-old carpenter was arrested at his home in Bua with five green plants, ranging from 70 cm to 90 cm, suspected to be marijuana.

In a separate incident, a 58-year-old man from Lautoka was arrested while carrying a shopping bag containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana, along with over three thousand dollars suspected to be proceeds of crime.

ACP Driu says a 53-year-old farmer from Labasa was arrested on Tuesday after being found with a sachet of dried leaves, while a 52-year-old bowser attendant was arrested on Friday in Wainibokasi for possession of three sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

He says a 51-year-old electrician from Lautoka was arrested on Wednesday with one large clear plastic bag and eight smaller plastic bags containing a white substance suspected to be methamphetamine.

ACP Driu also highlighted a 19-year-old woman from Nadi and her 25-year-old female companion were brought to the Lautoka Police Station early Tuesday morning after failing to pay their taxi fare.

In another case, a 29-year-old man from Makoi was caught last Sunday with two sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

Driu highlighted that the drug arrests were made through stop-and-search operations, roadblocks, raids, and with the assistance of the K-9 Unit.

A total of 76 people across the country were arrested this week for drug-related offences.
