71.5% of the target population have now received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while 14.7% of the population are now fully vaccinated.

Speaking on the fijivillage Straight Talk With Vijay Narayan, Head of the Vaccination Taskforce of the Ministry of Health, Doctor Rachel Devi says 419,673 people have received the first dose in the country while 86,505 people have received both doses.

Doctor Devi says more than 70% of the target population which is 192,922 people are now vaccinated with the first dose in the Central Division, the area which has the major outbreak of COVID-19.

She says it is good to see the numbers increasing however they have to ensure that people get fully vaccinated.

Doctor Devi says they are having more vaccination locations including drive-through sites in the Western Division as they are also concerned about the cases starting to rise in the west.

Fiji’s target population for vaccination is 586,651 adults.
