A 70-year-old man who raped his 8-year-old niece has been sentenced to 14 years and 9 months imprisonment.
The man had pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and the incidents happened between 2017 and 2018 in Nadi.
While sentencing the man, Justice Thushara Rajasinghe says the man had meticulously planned and executed this crime and had lured the girl to him by giving her money to buy chewing gum.
The Judge says the victim impact report states that this crime has adversely affected the complainant emotionally and psychologically.
Justice Rajasinghe adds the girl’s lifestyle, both personal and social, has changed adversely after this incident and this crime has shattered her self-confidence.
A non-parole period of 12 years and 9 months has been set.
