Seven women have lost their lives in the last 11 months as a result of alleged domestic violence.

This was confirmed by the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre Coordinator Shamima Ali, who says six of these alleged cases involved either the victims’ husband or their partners.

Ali says in another case, a woman was allegedly killed by the husband of another woman who was a victim of domestic violence.

She also says these numbers are quite high when compared to the Fijian population.

The FWCC Coordinator says since their inception in 1984 they have seen more than 40,000 survivors.
