Nasinu Town Council Special Administrator, Felix Magnus.

68 vendors have been penalised so far this year for operating illegal market stalls.

This was highlighted by Nasinu Town Council Special Administrator, Felix Magnus when asked by fijivillage News about these illegal market stalls.

This is also after people raised concerns regarding the dumping of rubbish by the illegal market stall owners near Laqere Bridge, Valelevu roundabout and Qarase Road which results in drain blockage, flooding and traffic.

Magnus says the Nasinu Town Council are committed to taking proactive measures to address the issue of illegal market stalls and ensure sustainable management of markets within their jurisdiction because people need to earn a living. He says they aim to create a conducive environment for legal vending activities while upholding public safety through enforcement actions. He further says they are currently working with Bio Energy and other stakeholders to address the issue of blocked drains and mitigate the risk of flooding to ensure the efficient operation of drainage systems.

The Special Administrator says residents should be aware of proper disposal of rubbish. He says most of the illegal dumping is done at night by the perpetrators therefore they are urging the communities to be vigilant and take photos of vehicle numbers and people who dump illegally. He adds they need to re-look at litter laws as pollution has become a national crisis.
