There are 650,081 registered voters in Fiji as at 31st December 2020.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says this number is projected to increase by next year as a number of people will be rushing to register before elections day.

He says as at June 2020, there were 645,673 registered voters.

Saneem says there were 9,465 new registered voters in the last 12 months.

He says this year the Electoral Commission will be using these statistics with other statistics to decide on number of the seats in the next parliament.

Saneem says there will be a lot of operational processes designed based on the statistics that they put forward today and the provisional voters registrations that will be released this year may be used by political parties for campaign planning.

He says the exercise of recommending the number of seats in parliament to the Electoral Commission will be done by them in June or July this year.

Saneem says they are also doing their data cleaning exercise where they are attempting to obtain data of deceased persons and verifying with the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registry.

He says there were 634,120 registered voters in the 2018 general elections.
