Search operations are underway this morning for a 65-year-old man and a 5-year-old child reported missing in separate drowning incidents in the Northern and Western Divisions.
Police say the first case was reported at Cogea Village, where the 65-year-old man was swept away by strong currents while attempting to cross a swollen river near his village yesterday afternoon.
In the second incident, involving a foreign national, a five-year-old child was swept away by strong currents near the Biausevu Waterfall in Sigatoka.
Police confirm that search efforts began in the area but have so far been unsuccessful.
A team of police officers and community members is continuing the search today in Sigatoka.
However, police say they are unable to access Cogea Village due to flooded roads and crossings but remain in close contact with community members who are assisting with the search on the ground.
Police are urging the public to take extra care during heavy rain and flood warnings, stressing that safety must remain a top priority.
They are also reminding parents and guardians to monitor their children at all times and not to attempt to cross flooded roads or rivers, or swim in swollen waterways.
