A 64-year-old farmer from Korowaqa, Rakiraki has died after the vehicle he was driving was involved in an accident near Malake, Rakiraki yesterday afternoon.

Police say the man allegedly lost control of his vehicle, causing it to veer onto the opposite lane resulting in a head on collision with another vehicle.

The other vehicle was driven by a 35-year-old man who was travelling with his 32-year-old wife.

Both sustained injuries and are admitted at the Rakiraki Hospital.

A post mortem will be conducted to ascertain cause of death as investigations continue.

Police says the road death toll currently stands at 1 compared to none for the same period last year.

They say with more rain expected in the next few days, they are again calling on drivers to drive carefully and be vigilant.

Police adds plan your travel ahead of time to avoid speeding, and take all necessary precautions as visibility will be low during times of heavy downpour while slippery road conditions will be a safety hazard.
