6 people charged with a total of 16 counts of serious sex offences in May

6 people have been charged with a total of 16 counts of serious sex offences in separate incidents in May.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions says there were 14 cases of rape, 1 case of attempted rape and 1 case of sexual assault.

4 of the 6 victims were under the age of 18 years.

Of the 6 people charged, one was a juvenile.

A 16-year-old boy was charged with three counts of rape of a 16-year-old girl, however, this matter was discontinued after the victim admitted to making a false complaint.

The DPP’s Office says there was one incident where the victim and the accused were related to one another.

A 62-year-old man was charged with 7 counts of rape and one count of sexual assault of his 12-year-old stepdaughter.

The accused is currently serving a custodial sentence for the rape of his other stepdaughter.

A 27-year-old man was charged with the rape of a 19-year-old woman, while in another incident, a 26-year-old man was charged with two counts of rape of a 16-year-old girl.

In another incident, a 19-year-old man was charged with the rape of a 16-year-old girl, however, this matter was discontinued due to insufficient evidence.

There was one incident where a 36-year-old man was charged with the attempted rape of a 70-year-old woman, however, this matter was discontinued after the death of the accused person.
