53 individuals successfully attained the Plumber General Class III qualification from the Fiji National University’s National Training and Productivity Centre representing a diverse group from across Fiji’s workforce.

Fifty are from the Water Authority of Fiji’s Nadi depot, two from Fiji Airports, and one from Tropik Wood Industries Limited.

For Lanieta Taka, earning the Plumber General Class III qualification is more than just a certificate; it’s a breakthrough in a traditionally male-dominated field.

As one of only two women among the 53 graduates, Taka says her achievement symbolizes growing opportunities for women in Fiji’s technical trades.

She says being a woman and achieving this qualification is a significant milestone for her as a Service Technician at the Water Authority of Fiji.

Taka adds that it means a lot to her mother, who has always been her pillar of strength.

She is grateful for the support from WAF and motivated to continue advancing her skills.

Taka’s story is just one of many inspiring journeys celebrated on Friday, when 53 individuals graduated with the Plumber General Class III qualification from FNU’s NTPC.

Another graduate 55-year-old Etonia Qoro, a Technical Assistant at WAF, says that despite her age, this training has helped her achieve a dream through dedication and continuous learning.

30-year-old graduate Sowani Sito, who emphasized the importance of lifelong education, said age is no barrier to learning and that the qualification will help him progress further in his career.

NTPC’s Trade Testing Officer, Richard Gaunavou, acknowledged the graduates and reaffirmed the centre’s commitment to supporting skill development across all ages and backgrounds.

Gaunavou says education knows no age limit, and that FNU and NTPC are here to empower individuals through Technical and Vocational Education and Training programmes.

This milestone underscores the crucial role of TVET in cultivating a skilled and inclusive workforce, thereby contributing to Fiji’s ongoing development and prosperity.
