52 children have been diagnosed with Rheumatic Heart Disease following echo screenings conducted in Kadavu this week.

The echo screenings were carried out by the Kadavu Health Team in collaboration with the medical team from the Sai Prema Foundation Fiji.

The Health Ministry says this outreach has enabled the medical team to identify new cases, commence treatment, make early referrals for those requiring surgical correction, and, most importantly, continue closely monitoring the children as they grow.

The Ministry has expressed its gratitude to the medical team from Sai Prema for facilitating this screening.

Meanwhile, the Foundation has saved the lives of 351 children through free heart surgeries.

At least 60 people die from Rheumatic Heart Disease in Fiji each year.
