The hunt is continuing for the five masked and armed men who robbed the Bank of the South Pacific, Samabula Branch at around 1.30pm today.
According to police, the five masked men smashed the wooden wall beside the ATM on the Rewa Street side.
An eye witness said that a liteace van reversed three times into the wooden wall and the impact then made an entry point into the BSP bank.
Police say the men entered the bank, armed with cane knives, pinch bars, beer bottles.
No injuries were reported on the scene.
The same van that was used to make an entry point, was used as the getaway vehicle that was recovered later at Toorak.
Police at this point in time cannot confirm what was stolen however according to eye witness accounts, two silver cases were in possession of the escaping men.
A footpath vendor and an eye witness Adi Yaqa Delana told Fijivillage that she was really scared.
Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro said that police are still on the scene in Samabula.
This is the fifth case of robbery in 48 hours and no arrests have been made so far.
Meanwhile, the escapees still on the run are 30 year old Isoa Waqa who is serving 8 years for robbery with violence, 28 year old Solomoni Qurai who is serving a life sentence for burglary and murder, 29 year old Tevita Sugu who is serving a 13 year sentence for aggravated robbery, 25 year old Josaia Usumaki who is serving a 26 year sentence for robbery with violence and related offences and 30 year old Epeli Qaraniqio who is serving 8 years for robbery with violence.
People are reminded that harboring an escapee is a crime and they can face a prison term of two years or a fine of $5,000.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the 5 escapees are encouraged to call Police or the Corrections Command Centre on 3100 107.
