Good news for students who wish to further their qualification as the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service is offering 49 Ph.D scholarships for the next academic year.

This is after the TSLS partnered with Monash University (MU), Swinburne University of Technology (Swinburne), and soon Griffith University for Fiji students in Australia.

This partnership aims to jointly fund Ph.D. programs for Fijian students.

In a statement, TSLS says as part of this partnership, the Fiji Government, through TSLS, will cover costs such as overseas insurance, health, airfares, stipends, and other costs.

They say Monash University will cover the full tuition fee of 15 students, Swinburne University of Technology and Griffith University will cover five students, Australian universities have already signed the agreement for 4 students, the University of New Castle with cover 5, University of New South Wales cover 1, Queensland University of Technology will cover 5, Western Sydney University will cover three 3 while there are 10 scholarships under the scheme of Masters by Ph.D by Research at local and New Zealand University.

TSLS CEO Dr. Hasmukh Lal says this is the historic allocation of Ph.D scholarships which will bring multiplier return and significantly boost intellectual capital in the workforce.

He says that through the cost-sharing Ph.D scheme, the taxpayers will save an average of $270,000 per student and with 39 scholarships in the scheme, the total savings is $10.5 million.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) and Senior Vice President, Professor Craig Jeffrey of Monash University says that Monash University has signed an agreement with TSLS, making it one of the largest hosts of Fijian students among Australian universities.

The partnership aims to enhance human capacity in Fiji through a co-funded Ph.D program, reflecting a commitment to building a brighter future together.
