4,769 families in Nausori and Suva were assisted through government’s food assistance program yesterday.

These are the families who requested for food assistance by calling on *161# earlier in the week but could not be assisted.

These families were identified after the Ministry of Economy carried out their data cleansing exercise and have found that they were legitimate requests but did not receive the assistance.

A total of 24,400 families have been assisted through this program.

Ministry of Economy Coordinator Kamal Gounder says they have also distributed 5,054 food packs to families who are currently in isolation or cordoned-off areas.

Gounder says distribution in these areas will resume tomorrow.

He has also thanked the RFMF, Fiji Corrections Services, Fiji Police Force, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Infrastructure, Ministry of Forestry, Ministry of Fisheries, Water Authority of Fiji, Land Transport Authority and Fiji Gas for assisting them with the distribution.
