451 families from the settlements of Ledrusasa in Nadi , Cuvu in Sigatoka and Waidamdamu in Nausori are expected to be given 99 year leases by the end of this year as the Ministry for Housing and Community Development will be hoping to complete the Informal Settlement Upgrading Projects by then.

The government has allocated $12.2 million for the completion of the three projects this year.

Minister for Housing and Community Development, Premila Kumar says the Cuvu project started in 2014 and unfortunately in 2017 the project came to a standstill as it was not fully completed and it is now being revived.

She says after the completion of construction phase, the lot allotment process will begin and a detailed socio-survey and a strict means test will be conducted for verification purposes.

Kumar says once the development is completed, the infrastructure will be handed over to relevant authorities such as the Fiji Roads Authority and the Water Authority of Fiji.
