437 participants, including legal professionals, academics, and key stakeholders, gather at the Sheraton Fiji Resort & Spa in Denarau for the 26th Attorney General’s Conference.

The two-day event, which began yesterday, served as a significant platform for discussions on important and pressing issues impacting the legal profession and beyond.

While officiating at the event, French Ambassador to Fiji, Julie Le Saos, emphasized the importance of collaboration between France and Fiji, highlighting shared goals of justice, fairness, and the protection of human rights.

She says both our nations are striving towards the same goals—justice, fairness, and the protection of human rights.

Saos says France actively collaborates with Fiji and other Pacific nations on shared concerns, such as climate change, climate resilience, and maritime security.

She further noted the pressing global issues of climate change, human rights, and the rising use of artificial intelligence, underscoring the important roles both France and Fiji play in addressing these challenges.

Solicitor-General Ropate Green Lomavatu says the Conference is a hallmark event for the legal profession in Fiji.

He says it is more than just a meeting; it is a platform where we discuss, debate, and reflect on the important issues that shape the legal landscape.

Lomavatu says it has brought together some of the brightest minds in law.

He adds that this year’s discussions serve as both a reflection of current challenges and a call to action.

The Solicitor-General says over the next two days, they will hear, discuss, and learn more about important and transformative topics that lie at the intersection of tradition and innovation, of rights and responsibilities, of the past and the future.

He urged participants to apply the lessons learned in their respective roles to strengthen legal systems, uphold justice, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Attorney General Graham Leung was absent at the opening of the Conference as he was overseas presenting Fiji's case before the International Court of Justice on climate change.

The Conference ends today.
